This blog has been created to help me, James, learn lines for dramatic purposes.
I shall write the line before mine, the line itself, and the line after.
In Shakespeare's As you like it I play Adam and In his Merchant of Venice I play Shylock.
I shall format like so: Lines in Italic, Stage directions [In brackets and bold], and line no.'s underlined
I shall start with:
As you like it.
Line 1.
[Play begins]
Adam: Yonder comes my master your'e brother.
Orlando: Go apart Adam... Etc
Line 2.
Orlando: I am no villain. I am the youngest son of Sir Rowland De Boys. Wert thou not my brother,I would not take this hand from thy throat.
Adam: [Coming forward] Sweet masters, be patient, for your'e father's remembrance, be at accord.
Oliver: [To Orlando] Let me go I say!
Line 3.
Oliver: [To Adam] Get you with him you old dog!
Adam: Is "old dog" my reward? God be with the old master, he would not have spoke such a word.
[Exit Orlando and Adam]
Line 4 and 5.
Orlando: Who's there?
Adam: Oh my sweet master, oh unhappy youth, come not within these doors. Your brother hath heard your praises, and this night he means to burn your lodging, where you use to lie and you within it.
Orlando: What, would'st thou have me go and beg my food, or enforce a thievish living on the common road?
Adam: I have 500 crowns, I saved under your father. All this I give to you, let me go with you.
Orlando: Oh good old man. We'll go along together.
Line 7.
[Enter Orlando and Adam]
Adam: Dear master, I can go no further, Oh I die for food, here lie I down and measure out my grave. Farewell kind master.
Orlando: Why how now Adam? No greater heart in thee? Live a little, comfort a little, cheer thyself a little. If this uncouth forest yield anything savage, I will either be food for it, or bring it for food for thee.
[Orlando carries Adam off]
